But the automaker isn’t just throwing a couple issues of the magazine on a table and calling it done. Oh no, it built this 2015 Mustang GT “King Cobra” with the parts found inside. Just take a gander at this one-off dragster.
“We wanted Mustang enthusiasts to be able to open up the Ford Racing parts catalog and get one of everything and see what they could get,” says Ford Racing director Jamie Allison. “We think the King Cobra package is it.” While all the parts can be ordered a la carte, this particular combination constitutes Ford’s first performance package for the new Mustang.
The build includes the Drag Pack with heavy-duty half shafts, a rear subframe kit, and high-performance bushings; the Handling Pack that lowers the car an inch with specialized springs plus rear shocks and a stabilizer bar kit; and the Super Pack that includes a 2.3-liter Twin Vortices supercharger, an intake manifold, an electronic throttle body, and air intake system, high-flow fuel rail and injectors, an air-to-liquid intercooler, and a computer tune.
With the added boost to the 5.0-liter V-8, Ford suspects the engine puts out some 600-plus horsepower. That’s an impressive jump from the V-8’s stock 435-horsepower rating. Laying that power to the ground is done with massive, street-legal drag radials. Skinny straight-line tires shed some unnecessary weight from the front end, helping the car complete the quarter mile in just 10.97 seconds.
