Mopar Muscle SEMA 2014 Car Of The Day McLeod Racing 1970 Hemi Plymouth Barracuda

Mopar Muscle SEMA 2014 Car Of The Day McLeod Racing 1970 Hemi Plymouth BarracudaResearch and development, that’s the core of bringing any new high performance products to market, and there’s no better way to test your products than to build a badass in-house test vehicle. At least that’s what Paul Lee likes to tell everyone when referring to his gorgeous 1970 Hemi Plymouth Barracuda. We happen to know he’s also been dying to build this car for the past ten years or so. With the debut of McLeod’s revolutionary new Muscle Car 5 Transmission with a 2.95 1st gear and .63 5th gear, it seemed like the perfect time to create a car that could be used to put some real world use and abuse on it. Working Jim Bassett at Bones Fabrication, Hot Rods & Muscle Cars in Camarillo, CA, Lee dusted off the ‘Cuda and made plans to build the streetcar he’d been dreaming of for years.
So other than a bitchin’ ‘Cuda, the big deal here is that McLeod Muscle Car 5 is designed with an exclusive case design that allows for fitment into tight tunnels; none of the cutting involved with T-5 transmissions. With 8620 forged steel gears and a 32-spline output shaft, it can handle up to 500 ft lbs of torque. However, Lee likes to take his tests to the extreme, so his ‘Cuda is packing an Arrington Performance built 528ci 2nd-Gen Hemi with Edelbrock heads and a Procharger F-2 that has been dyno’d at 1,300 hp. He does drive Funny Cars on the weekend, so that sounds pretty streetable by his standards. Besides having fun, the plan is to see exactly what the new transmission can handle because McLeod plans to offer a 1-year/ 12,000 mile warranty on all Muscle Car 5 transmissions.
